a history↴

There wasn't all that much for a young girl to do in Chuncheon, really. Bored out of her mind before she was even old enough to start school, Yiyoung's parents decided to start her off on lessons so that she would stop pestering them. Piano and ballet were the starting points, and her appetite for learning was voracious, her talent undeniable. Her mother, a former socialite who'd had to move to Chuncheon for her husband's work, set aside the alcohol for long enough to realize that she could shape Yiyoung in her image.

Other lessons followed, along with talent shows and beauty contents and pageants, and she was pulled from her primary school to instead be home schooled by her mother. While Yiyoung basked in the attention at first, she grew to dislike it when she got old enough, or wise enough, to realize that she was being used. She began to opt for lessons that wouldn't do well at the competitions her mother liked to enter her in, liked drums, or hip-hop dance. She stopped trying hard enough to be able to win, and there was a massive falling out between Yiyoung and her mother around the time she was due to start high school.

When Yiyoung's father found out just what his wife had been doing to their only daughter, he was furious. The divorce was swift, and his wife left for Jeju to live with her family instead of sticking around in Chuncheon for much longer. Yiyoung enrolled in high school and made friends quickly, her bubbly and outgoing nature ensuring that she could navigate the social minefields with relative ease. It was through one of her classmates that she discovered heavy metal music, and it changed her life. While previously she'd wanted little to do with the instruments she'd learned growing up, she wanted to get better at the drums, and she picked up the bass as well, with guitar following in her senior year.

Graduation came, as it tends to, and Yiyoung was faced with the difficult decision of choosing where to attend college. A number of institutions had accepted her application, and she decided on Yonsei, given how fondly her father had always spoken of the fraternity he'd been in, though not in Seoul. Things seemed to be going fine at first, and though rushing was fairly stressful, she'd been doing okay... at least until getting into a nasty fight with one of the sorority sisters at an event. It was nasty enough that Yiyoung landed in the hospital with multiple lacerations and cracked ribs, and a bad enough concussion that surgery was required. She spent much of the rest of what should have been her first full year at Yonsei recovering, with her father visiting as frequently as he was able.

Yiyoung didn't want to give up on college, though, so she enrolled again as a freshman the next fall, took her classes over again so that she could actually do well. Greek life was out of the question for her, but Yonsei was still a good school overall. She got antsy without any extracurriculars, though, and took a few boxing lessons before deciding on pole dancing as a way to keep in shape. Nearing the end of her sophomore year, she's excited for the chance to actually start working with kids and teaching them music, hopefully in a way that would make her father proud, instead of her mother.
